Senior Backend Software Engineer

Why We Need This Role
We’re tackling two urgent challenges:

  • Our product must scale to support multiple clients and high-traffic, real-time environments.

  • We've lost backend engineering capacity, and our only full-stack developer is expected to shift focus to frontend work.

To keep up with integration demands and continue evolving our core gamification engine, we need a dedicated backend engineer who can take ownership of the architecture, improve reliability, and drive feature expansion.

As our Senior Backend Engineer, you will:

  • Own and scale backend systems to support high-concurrency, real-time operations across multiple clients.

  • Accelerate the development of new features and external integrations.

  • Strengthen the engineering foundation for future growth.

  • Improve backend tooling and API flexibility to speed up client onboarding and iteration.

  • Relieve our full-stack developer of backend responsibilities.

  • Reduce single-point-of-failure risks in our engineering team.

  • Enable better focus and productivity across both frontend and backend.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain core backend services, including event-driven game logic, vendor APIs, internal tools, and feature extensions.

  • Lead technical decisions regarding performance, scaling, observability, and security.

  • Collaborate with DevOps to ensure smooth CI/CD and infrastructure-as-code practices.

  • Work closely with business and technical teams to assess feasibility and timelines for new initiatives.

  • Interface with frontend and external systems using REST, WebSockets, and message queues.

Our Tech Stack

  • Languages: TypeScript (Node.js), Python

  • Datastores: MongoDB, Redis, Azure Blob Storage

  • Messaging: Kafka, Azure WebPubSub (WebSocket-based)

  • Infrastructure: Azure, Azure DevOps, Docker, MongoDB Atlas

What We’re Looking For

  • 5+ years of experience building distributed backend systems in production.

  • Strong background in real-time applications (e.g., gaming, trading, AdTech).

  • Deep knowledge of API design, data modeling, and event-driven architectures.

  • Solid understanding of security, rate-limiting, logging, and observability.

  • Experience in early-stage startups or high-velocity product teams.

  • Excellent communication, self-organization, and time management.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

  • Bonus: Familiarity with the iGaming industry or regulated environments.
